Optimisation of Planar Electrodes for Stochastic Beam Cooling

چکیده
Member of the Graduiertenkolleg (DFG GK-GRK 410/1) In the new GSI project stochastic cooling of secondary particles will be used. The efficiency of stochastic cooling is mainly influenced by the coupling of the electrodes to the beam. This performance has to be investigated and optimised. The investigation is done via a three dimensional numerical electromagnetic field analysis with use of the simulation package “CST Microwave Studio” [1]. The basic planar structure for starting the optimisation is explained in [2]. It consists of a slotline on the upper side of a substrate, which couples directly to the beam. The signal is then obtained by means of a microstrip line on the lower side of the substrate. As already mentioned in [2], an improvement is possible by countersinking the slotline. For that purpose the slotline/microstrip-line transition had to be optimised again taking the sinking into account. The optimisation goal was a minimum reflection coefficient.

Performance Studies of Planar Electrodes for Stochastic Beam Cooling
Supported in part by DFG under contract GraKo 410 and GSI, Darmstadt Stochastic cooling will be an important issue in the new GSI project. Crucial to the efficiency of stochastic cooling is an ideal coupling to the beam. The main coupling elements are pickup/kicker electrodes. These electrodes have to be analysed and optimised extensively. The optimisation is performed by a three dimensional nu...
متن کاملPlanar Pick-Up Electrodes for Stochastic Cooling at the FAIR Project
The collector ring (CR) of the proposed facility for antiproton and ion research (FAIR) includes a fast stochastic cooling system for exotic nuclei with β = 0.83 and antiprotons with β = 0.97. For fast cooling, a good S/N ratio of the pick-up is crucial. The large initial emittances lead to the requirement of covering a large aperture (typically 200 mm). The λ/4-loop electrodes, currently used ...
متن کاملSlotted Waveguide Slow-wave Stochastic Cooling Arrays
The slotted waveguide slow-wave stochastic cooling arrays are an integral part of the 4-8 GHz Debuncher Upgrade at FNAL. Unlike the standard array of stripline electrodes, these structures are designed to work when the beam pipe can support many microwave modes. The design theory and beam measurement results of this new type of pickup structure will be presented in this paper.

متن کاملEnhanced planar channeling of MeV protons through thin crystals.
At certain tilt alignments between a MeV proton beam and a planar channeling direction, a single interface lattice rotation within a crystal can result in a lower rate of dechanneling than at planar alignment in a perfect crystal. Such planar channeling enhancement arises when the beam passes through a layer thickness which is a half-multiple of the oscillation wavelength and then encounters a ...
